Pretoria is the administrative capital of South Africa and is located about 50 kilometres from Johannesburg in the province of Gauteng. Pretoria officially changed its name to Tshwane in 2005, but this is yet to be legislated on. The city is situated on a treeless plain, and is build in a regular pattern of wide streets and small houses surrounded by gardens, as well as large open places. Pretoria is also called "Jakaranda city" because of its more than 70.000 Jakaranda trees that, when in bloom in October, colour the city faintly purple.
