South Africa, or Rainbow Nation, is one of the worlds most gay-friendly countries. In 2006 gender-neutral marriage legislation was introduced and the rights of gay people are protected in the country's constitution. It was in connection with the huge upheaval from apartheid to a new democratic state that the LGBT issues were brought to the forefront. The capital is still Pretoria, but when it comes to the LGBT scene, Cape Town and Johannesburg have first choice. You travel here if you want to experience a huge country with dramatic coastlines, go on a safari, eat well, and not the least, drink the country's own fantastic wines.
