In the central part of Texas you find its capital Austin. The city is the 16th largest in the USA and considered to be one of the fastest growing. Before the Europeans arrived here, the area was inhabited by nomadic Indian tribes, such as the Tonkawa, Comanches and Apache. In the middle of the 1830s a city with the name of Waterloo was built, shortly after it was made the state capital. The present name comes from "the father of Texas", Stephen F. Austin.
During the cold months of the year the average temperature is around 4-7 degrees and in the summer it rises to around 30-36 degrees.
