The capital of Illinois was founded in 1770. Today close to 10 million people live in the greater Chicago region.
Before the Europeans came here, it was the Potawatomi tribe lived in the area. Today the city by Lake Michigan is one of the more dominant in the US, with the country’s second largest central business district (The Loop). The city has the largest Swedish-American population in the US and if you visit Andersonville in the northern parts the approximately 123 000 Swedish Americans become very evident. The climate is similar to the one in Scandinavia with a winter temperature around 0 degrees centigrade and a summer temperature up towards 30 degrees.
Chicago has a huge gay scene and the leather scene is particularly strong with annual International Mr Leather competition.
