The capital of Slovenia is the cultural, political and economic centre in the country. In 452 the Romans built the settlement of Colonia Iulia Aemona. It was destroyed by Attila, the leader of the Huns. The city is first mentioned in 1144 with its current name (Laibach in German, Luwigana in Latin). Ljubljana has several gay venues and organisations working with LGBT issues.
