Hartford, the capital of Connecticut, is known as "The Insurance City of the World" thanks to the many headquarters of international insurance companies that are based there. Hartford is one of the oldest states and, after the civil war, took over New Orleans’ title of richest state. The first European settlers here were Dutch, who came in 1614, and their influences can be seen in the area Dutch Point. There are a handful of gay bars in the city and the main gay area is centered around Trinity College. Gay Pride takes place in July.
