Christchurch, or Ōtautahi in Maori, is the capital of Canterbury on the south island of New Zeeland. It is located by the sea and a perfect place to get out on the water and watch dolphins, seals and whales. From here you can take a train across the mountains to the other side of the island – a journey with fantastic views. The climate is comfortable with top temperatures around 22 degrees in January and February, down towards 10 degrees in June and July.
In the city centre there are a few gay bars.
