Palm Springs is a desert city in Riverside County, southern California. The parks, golf courses and gardens in the city survive thanks to constant irrigation. Everything around it is desert. About 35% of the population is gay and since 1995 the city has an openly gay Mayor. The annual Gay Pride Festival the first weekend in November attracts thousands of visitors. The annual "White Party " has almost outgrown Pride and is celebrated 18 to 21 April in 2008 (annually around March/April)
