The mild climate and the beautiful surroundings is part of Ajaccio’s ”art de vivre”. Lovely colours, stunning light, sweet scents and smiling Ajaccio inhabitants. The town is the capital of Corsica. This is where the Bonaparte family lived and you can take a look at the room where Napoleon was born. That Napoleon was born in Ajaccio is hard to miss – streets carry his name and he has his own museum, Musée Napoleon, and there’s a statue of him in the town centre. Here you find white sandy beaches, cosy restaurants, cars and hordes of tourists.

The French call <B>Corsica</B> ”Ile de Beauté”, the beautiful island. It is also said that Napoleon Bonaparte once uttered ”everything on Corsica is better and fairer than anywhere else”. Corsica is the most mountainous, varied and the greenest of all the larger islands in the western Mediterranean. Corsica is like a whole country in miniature! Corsica, with 260 000 inhabitants, is probably the most beautiful island in the Mediterranean. 1 million tourists every year can’t be wrong. You never get used to Corsica with its dramatic and varied scenery. The beach coves on the west coast with unbelievable cliff formations that fall into the sea, the inland mountains, where the snow can remain until June, and the sandy beaches on the east coast, stretching over 500 kilometres from north to south. Gay life is poor, but the odd gay couple on a honeymoon can be sighted.
