Alingås is situated between lakes Mjörn and Gerdsken in county Västergötland. The name of the city can be traced back to 1382 when "Aling" came to live were the city is now located. Alingsås didn't become a city until 1619, when king Gustav II Adolf ruled Sweden. If you visit Alingsås you are recommended to take a cup of coffee in one of the 24 cafés located in this small town. Alingsås is also called "potato town" because Jonas Alströmer, who brought the potato to Sweden, is from here. To honour the spuds and the great son of the city the potato festival is celebrated every year. There's no gay scene so for that, travel to Borås or Gothenburg.
