World Outgames 2009 opens with an emotional and spectacular extravaganza celebrating tolerance and diversity in the heart of Copenhagen on the square at City Hall – where a homosexual couple exchanged legally recognized vows of partnership for the first time in history.
Scripted by hit screenwriter Mette Heeno and award winning screenwriter Tina Bom Svendsen, the
opening ceremony will feature a dramatic presentation of the themes of gender, identity and diversity including music performances, aerial artistry and a spectacular light show.
In a break with the traditional stadium march, the parade of nations will take place on a catwalk from
the entrance to City Hall across the square. The march will be in stride with music from Danish Music
Award winner DJ BUDA and Tom and performed by international DJ Djuna Barnes. New Circus artist from AFUK and winner of the Reumert Danish Stage Award, Anders Astrup Jensen, and a number of our top DJ’s will contribute to this unprecedented celebration of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender sport, culture and human rights.
Danish music icon Annisette from the rock band Savage Rose has written the official World Outgames 2009 song. She will perform the anthem live on stage accompanied by a 100 man choir. Annisette’s performance is part of the grand finale, after the party participants and guests are invited to move on to the official World Outgames opening party at Halvandet.
All registered World Outgames participants are invited to hang out, chill and connect at the delightful Participant Area from 2:00 pm. There will be dj entertainment, refreshments and space to prepare and line up for the parade of nations on the catwalk.
