Alicante is a city in the province of Alicante, in the region of Valencia in eastern Spain. Alicante is on the coastal strip of Costa Blanca, known for its milelong white beaches. The area has been inhabited by the Greeks, the Romans and the Moors. Here you find Roman ruins, Middle Age walls and modern streets. The marble boardwalk, Explanada de Espana, is one of the most beautiful in Spain. Alicante has quite a lively gay/LGBT scene. Down by the harbour there are many cafes and restaurants - a good place to start an evening out. The beach to go to is La Marina, 20 minutes outside of the city.
