Hemavan is in the district of Storuman in county Västerbotten. This little town is only 40 kilometres from the Norwegian border. The capital of Storuman is 150 kilometres away, while the nearest Norwegian city. Mo i Rana, is 100 kilometres away. Hemavan is situated in a lowland area near lakes Ahasjön and Tängsvattemluspen. Around the town mighty mountains stretch out. 19 kilometres away is Tärnaby, where Swedish skiing legend Ingemar Stenmark grew up. The area is well visited by tourists, which means the town has its own airport. Hemavan is where popular hiking trail Kungsleden (The King’s Trail) starts, leading to Abisko. In 2000 Drottningleden (The Queen’s Trail) was opened, finishing in Laisaliden.
