Seinäjoki was founded in 1798 on the grounds where Östermyra works was located. For a long time Östermyra was the Swedish name, but today Seinäjoki is used. The city is situated in southern Southern Ostrobothnia and is an important junction for the railway from Helsinki to Oulu.
