Eskilstuna is situated in the Mälaren valley in county Södermanland. Where present day Eskilstuna is situated, there was a trading area already year 1000 A.D. Eskilstuna has since then been an important trade and industrial city. The city has the largest Finnish Swedish population in Sweden. Parken Zoo is an attraction, and if you want to see cultural history a visit to the Rademacher forges or the Sörmland farm is recommended. The most beautiful woman in Sweden comes from Eskilstuna, dragshow artist Christer Lindarw, well known through his work with After Dark. Since 2007 SpringPride is organised here. On Mälardalen University there is a LGBT student organisation called Sapho, and The Swedish Federation for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Rights (RFSL) has a local branch.
