Frederiksberg Palace with the palace gardens are without a doubt the centre of this district in Copenhagen. You don’t really notice entering another town when you walk up Allégade street and since 1 January 2007 it is a part of the region of the capital, where also island Bornholm is included. The city was founded in 1651 when King Frederik III gave farmers from the Netherlands the right to settle along Allégade. The palace was built 1700-1735 and was the summer residence of the royal family until the middle of the 19th century. After that The Royal Military Academy moved in to the palace. Frederiksberg is a bit ”fancier” and more expensive part of capital Copenhagen.
