Today’s Bucharest is a mix of different architectural influences, from the Middle Ages to French architecture, to dictatorial concrete blocks. Bucharest is, without a doubt, the best kept secret in Europe. Restaurants, bars, art galleries and museums pop up in nearly every restored area. Tourists have started to discover this little gem and explore the hidden treasures of Bucharest. Bucharest is a city with beautiful gardens, parks and wide boulevards. It has a beautiful combination if 18th century and modern architecture, surrounded by greenery, leisure areas and lakes. The Palace of the Parliament, former dictator Ceausescu’s glamorous place of work, spreads out in central Bucharest and is an obvious place to visit. Do take a guided tour; it’s an interesting lesson in egocentric lunacy. After years of oppression, gay life in Bucharest is beginning to come to life, and people meet in “gay friendly bars”, such as ”Queens club” and ”Sugar”. Bucharest doesn’t really encourage to a cool gay holiday… but there are plenty of other things!
